Side by side Twizy seating Experiment

The ETN is continuing its innovative research agenda. This time we are seeing whether our friends at Redcastle Classic cars in Caerphilly can modify a Twizy chassis to create side-by-side seating with more luggage space at the rear. Read about the project on our blog.

ETN Partner in Niche Vehicle Project

The ETN is delighted to be a partner in a collaborative project with Axon Automotive and Loughborough University Design School which was announced on December 6th as a Niche Vehicle Feasibility Competition winner.  The 3 month grant from the Niche Vehicle Network will be used to explore the design feasibility of an L7e vehicle (i.e. electric quadricycle) for rural use. Our role on the project is to input ideas and experience based on our 6 years of using electric quadricycles (first road legal buggies and then Renault Twizys) in rural areas of mid Wales and W. Scotland.

You can follow the project progress over on our Ecofunkytravelling blog or by following us on Twitter @ecofunkytravel

ETN Member wins prestigious AA award

We'd like to congratulate one of our Eco Travel Network members, The Angel Hotel in Abergavenny on winning the AA Hotel of the Year in Wales. Well deserved! And it's great to see a couple of their guests enjoying a trip out in the Angel's ETN Twizy, Talia, at the end of this short video about the hotel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KCXVvwUqMk

Obviously, Talia didn't win the AA award singlehandedly but we'd like to think she helped :)

Arisaig Eco Project try Toro Twizy

Toro, our ETN modified rural Twizy recently spent a week being tried out by members Arisaig Community Trust as part of their eco project. You can see some photos and read a short blog here. Toro is now back on Isle of Eigg where he lives. It is always good when other rural communities get the opportunity to try out a Twizy for their local journeys.

Eco Travel Network extends its reach

On an experimental basis, the Eco Travel Network has extended its Twizy reach to both ends of the UK. This is part of our project to explore lightweight, low energy travel options for rural areas. Our modified rural Twizy Toro has recently moved from Knoydart back to the Isle of Eigg where it will be used as part of the Eiggbox project for the next year.

In parallel, Torquil has moved down to Penzance for the summer where he will be used by a local resident who is keen to explore Twizy and Eco Travel Network style opportunities in the far West of Cornwall.

Be reassured, the rest of the Twizy fleet are still here and happy and available for hire in the Brecon Beacons National Park!

Report of Rural Twizy Trial on Isle of Eigg

The Eco Travel Network ran a 3 month trial of their modified rural Twizy 'Toro' on the Isle of Eigg. The two main aims of the trial were:-

1. To see how well a modified Twizy works in locations similar to rural Wales where neither range nor high speed are important and renewable sources of electricity are readily available.

2. To identify the design priorities for a relatively cheap, ultra low energy vehicle which would work effectively in remote rural locations.

You can now read the trial report here.

Follow further developments @ecofunktravel

The ETN has now moved Toro to Knoydart where the trial is continuing.

New Addition to ETN Fleet - Boswell Boma7 All Terrain Wheelchair

The ETN is delighted to have a new addition to its hire fleet - 'Boswell' - a Boma 7 All Terrain Wheelchair which enables people with limited mobility to join family and friends on walks in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

We are running Boswell as a 1 year experiment and are currently testing him to find out what he can and can't do and search out good Boma routes in the area. We hope that he will be available for hire by visitors or local residents by March 2015. We will announce details of how this will work nearer the time.

You can read more about Boswell's adventures so far on our ETN blog.
